Becoming a mum changes everything, and your first Mother’s Day is a moment you’ll never forget. Whether you’re in the newborn haze or chasing after a wobbly toddler, this day is about celebrating you - your love, your strength, and the incredible job you’re doing!
What Does Mother’s Day Feel Like as a New Mum?
For many new mums, the day can feel like a mix of emotions. You might be exhausted, emotional, and still adjusting to this new chapter of life. But there’s also a quiet magic to it - seeing your little one’s first scribbled card, waking up to sleepy cuddles, and knowing that from now on, this day is just as much about you as it is about your own mum.
Making the Most of Your First Mother’s Day
Even if your baby is too young to understand, you deserve to feel celebrated. Here are some gentle ways to make the most of your day:
-
Soak in the little moments – Those sleepy smiles, tiny fingers wrapped around yours, the way your baby looks at you like you’re their whole world.
-
Don’t put pressure on it – It doesn’t need to be perfect. A quiet morning, a hot cup of tea (finally!), and a little fresh air can be just as special as a grand celebration.
-
Capture the memories – Take a photo with your little one, even if it’s just in your pyjamas. One day, you’ll look back at this first Mother’s Day and be amazed at how tiny they once were.
A Reminder for New Mums
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, that’s okay too. Being a mum is a 24/7 job, and Mother’s Day doesn’t always come with a lie-in and breakfast in bed. But know this: you are doing an incredible job! Whether today is full of joy or just another day in the trenches of parenthood, you are loved, appreciated, and enough - exactly as you are.

I loved reading this post! It’s my first Mother’s Day this year and we’re really looking forward to making it super special with our little girl. Being a mum is the best thing I’ve ever done! Don’t stress yourself and go with the flow of what the day brings, it’s the small things that make a big difference. We make a point in our house to forget what people are doing on instagram and tiktok and enjoy our little family. xx
