Why Baby Banks Matter

Welcoming a new baby should be a joyful and exciting time. However, for many families, the cost of essential baby items can create overwhelming financial pressure.

Baby banks exist to support families during some of life’s most challenging moments. Working alongside midwives, health visitors, social workers and community professionals, they provide carefully prepared bundles of essential items tailored to each family’s needs.

Baby banks provide more than essential items. They offer reassurance, dignity and practical support to families who need it most, while helping ensure quality baby products are reused rather than wasted.

The Impact on Families & Communities

For families facing unexpected challenges, access to essential baby items can make an immediate and meaningful difference. Baby banks help ensure that children have access to safe sleeping spaces, clothing, feeding equipment, and everyday essentials when families need them most.

Support from baby banks can help reduce stress for parents and carers, allowing them to focus on their child’s wellbeing during difficult times. By providing practical help, these organisations play an important role in strengthening local communities and supporting early childhood development.

Baby banks also encourage sustainable parenting by redistributing high-quality items, helping reduce waste while supporting families in need.

How Clair de Lune Supports Baby Banks

At Clair de Lune, supporting families has always been at the heart of what we do. Through partnerships with Baby Banks across the UK, we help provide safe, comfortable essentials for babies and young children when families need them most.

For many families, preparing for a new baby can be overwhelming, particularly during times of financial hardship or crisis. By working closely with Baby Banks, we help ensure parents and carers can access the essentials they need to give their baby a safe and comfortable start.

We support Baby Banks in several ways, including providing charity pricing on essential products, donating items, and working directly with organisations to understand the needs of the families they support.

Our Moses baskets, bedding, blankets and nursery essentials are often included in starter bundles given to new parents. These bundles help create a safe sleeping space and provide comfort during an important and sometimes challenging stage of family life.

Every partnership allows us to extend our mission beyond our products and into communities where support can make a real and lasting difference.

Working under Church Army and the Anglican Diocese of Connor, the charity provides essential starter packs for babies and children up to age four, including Moses baskets, baby baths and laundry baskets filled with everyday essentials. All families are referred through local health professionals, ensuring support reaches those who need it most while helping redistribute good quality baby items that may otherwise go to landfill.

"We have been delighted to work with Clair de Lune for the last couple of years. The baskets are our biggest expense, and we struggle to raise enough funds to buy what we need. Clair de Lune has made this possible, and as we now send out over 40 packs a month, mostly Moses baskets, it has come at just the right time."

National & Local Partnerships

We're proud to work with both individual Baby Banks and organisations that unite charities across the UK to bring real change for families.

The Baby Bank Alliance connects baby banks nationwide, helping families access essential items wherever they are. While we don't work with every charity in the network, many of our partners are members, meaning our support reaches even further.

In Manchester, our home base, we work closely with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), which recently launched the first city-wide Baby Bank Network. This network unites local charities, increases capacity, joins up resources, and reaches more parents in need. GMCA and NHS Greater Manchester are also introducing an enhanced Safer Sleep offer, including safe bedding, room thermometers, and safe sleep guidance for families in crisis.

By partnering with national and local initiatives, we help ensure families across the UK have access to essential nursery items, while supporting charity networks that amplify the impact of every donation.

"Supporting these wonderful baby banks is something we care deeply about, and we remain committed to providing safe-sleep solutions for families who need them the most. Knowing that our products can help bring comfort and peace of mind to parents is something that truly motivates our team every day."

— Jessica James, Account Manager

Beds for Babies: A Safe Space to Sleep

Helping every child under five in South Yorkshire get a safe place to sleep.

We are proud to partner with Baby Basics UK to support the Beds for Babies programme, funded by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority. This pilot ensures families in need have access to cots, cot beds, Moses baskets, toddler beds, mattresses, and bedding bundles - all free of charge.

The launch in Goldthorpe, Barnsley has already:

  • Supported over 1,900 children
  • Provided more than 3,800 essential sleep items
  • Partnered with local Family Hubs to ensure deliveries reach families quickly

South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard said: "Every child deserves the best possible start in life, and that begins with a safe place to sleep."

How it works:

  • Families are referred by midwives, health visitors, social care professionals, or local hubs
  • Professionals can submit delivery requests via the Beds for Babies referral form
  • Businesses and community groups can get involved to support the initiative

This programme highlights our commitment to expanding safe sleep solutions and supporting families when they need it most.

Looking Ahead

We are committed to continuing our charitable partnerships and improving transparency around the support we provide. In the future, we plan to share dedicated impact reports highlighting the difference our partnerships make for families and communities.

Alongside our established charity partners, we have recently expanded our support to include cots and cot beds, helping ensure babies have safe sleep spaces from day one. These partnerships, which also include donations of Moses baskets and essential nursery items, allow us to respond to real, everyday needs within local communities. As these relationships grow, we look forward to sharing more of their stories and the impact we are making together.

Every safe sleeping space, every essential item and every donation helps give babies a safe and supported start in life. We are incredibly grateful to the charities, volunteers and communities who work alongside us to support families across the UK.
