How to Choose the Right Travel Cot

The best travel cot depends on how often you'll use it, where you'll take it and how much storage space you have.

Consider portability: Check the folded dimensions and product weight if you'll be carrying the cot between the car, accommodation and home.

Check the setup: A straightforward folding mechanism can make setting up and packing away more convenient, particularly when travelling with a little one.

Look at what's included: Some models include a mattress and carry bag. Always check the product description so you know exactly what you'll receive.

Check age and weight limits: Travel cots have specific suitability requirements. Make sure your chosen model is appropriate for your child's stage and size.

Think about storage: Compare the assembled and folded dimensions to ensure the cot fits comfortably in your home, car and luggage space.

Follow safety instructions: Assemble the cot fully, use the correct mattress and follow the manufacturer's instructions for safe use.

Travel Cots for Holidays and Overnight Stays

A travel cot can make overnight stays more straightforward by giving your little one a dedicated sleep space away from home. It's useful for family holidays, weekends away and visits to grandparents, particularly when you want to keep bedtime routines as familiar as possible.

Before travelling, practise assembling and folding the cot at home so you're comfortable using it. Check that all locking mechanisms are engaged before use, and make sure the cot is placed on a stable, level surface away from hazards.

Always follow the manufacturer's guidance about where and how the travel cot can be used. Use it for sleep only when it is designed and approved for that purpose.

Can a Travel Cot Be Used at Home?

Some travel cots can be used at home as a portable sleep space or for supervised play, provided the manufacturer permits these uses. They can be handy when visiting another room or creating a temporary space for your little one.

However, a travel cot is not automatically suitable for every type of sleep or play. Follow the specific instructions for your model, use the supplied or approved mattress, and never add an extra mattress or padding unless expressly permitted by the manufacturer.
